Ever taken a pair of brand new pair of shoes for a spin only to wind up hobbling around because you haven't broken them in yet? Instead of chucking them away, Sian Berry of The Observer shares a quick tip how to stretch them out using a pair of socks and a hairdryer.

Firstly, put on a pair of thick socks to protect your feet before stuffing them in the shoes. Next, aim a hairdryer nozzle at the tight areas and blast them with hot air. Try to flex and stretch your feet as you do this.

Once you think you're done, keep the shoes on while they cool. Then test by walking in them without socks on to check the fit. If they're still a bit snug, whip out the socks and hair dryer again until the shoes are stretched enough. And be sure to avoid getting them wet to prevent them from shrinking back again.
