Trends come and go, and the same thing can be said about lingerie. And now, new research by bra firm Ultimo indicates that when it comes to a lady's drawers, the trends tend to move ten years faster that other clothing styles.
The study was conducted by Scottish bra maker Ultimo. According to them, lingerie fashions tend to return about 40 years after their popularity. One good example would be the padded bras developed in the 1950s, which later made a comeback in the 1990s. Stockings and suspenders in the style of the 1960s also became popular again in the 2000s during the burlesque dance craze.
"Trends come around in lingerie as they do in fashion and it doesn't surprise me that it works on a 40-year cycle," Ultimo head Michelle Mone said. "It used to be that we changed our lingerie to suit fashions, but now underwear is setting the styles before outwear."
