Garbage disposals are great for getting rid of leftovers, but they can seriously stink up your sink. But before you decide to stick your hand inside, a quicker way to keep your garbage disposal clean and free from odors is simply by making ice cubes.



According to household weblog Turnstyle Vogue, this simple trick involves mixing a little white vinegar and a slice of lemon in each cube. When frozen, just place a cube inside the disposal and let it shred. The acidity of the vinegar should kill most of the germs while the lemon will keep it zesty fresh.

Make whole bunch of these cubes and stock them in a freezer bag for future use. Then just run them through the disposal whenever it starts to stink up.
