New York is a city that never sleeps. Too bad it's also a hotbed for weirdos, like this 42-year-old man called "Zippy" who's been posting videos of unsuspecting women as they go about their business and posting them on his Tumblr New York Subway Girls. In an interview with the New York Post, the self-proclaimed artist explains:
“I totally understand that many people consider it sorta creepy. It is,” Zippy wrote. “I have over the years had conversations with people . . . about how they saw the ‘most beautiful,’ ‘the hottest,’ ‘most amazing,’ ‘the finest’ woman on the Subway followed by a vivid description worthy of a sonnet.
“I decided to try and capture this common occurrence in one place where people could share and comment in an open and nonjudgmental manner.”
That's kind of hard to believe since most the time, since Zippy's admits to using a hidden camera inside a Starbucks coffee cup with the lens directly aimed up the woman's undergarments. He's also posted a couple of videos on YouTube, although they've since been taken down for "multiple or severe violations of YouTube's policy on nudity or sexual content". “I decided to try and capture this common occurrence in one place where people could share and comment in an open and nonjudgmental manner.”
Unfortunately, creepily photographing people on the subway isn't quite illegal, but it certainly isn't art. Here's hoping that this trend stays in New York.
