A girl has reportedly passed away after fighting with one of her classmates over a boy. Joanna Ramos, 11, had gotten into a pre-planned a fight on Friday with unnamed classmate after school in an alleyway near Willard Elementary in Long Beach, California. According to Ramos's friend Maggie Martinez described the fight:
"They took off their backpacks, and they put their hair in a bun, and then that's when they said 'go' and that's when they started hitting each other."
No weapons were used, and police also said neither girl was knocked to the ground. While both girls managed to walk away after the fight, Joanna's mother said she had a nosebleed and had felt sick on the way home. The family knew something wasn't right after she fell asleep, and took her to the emergency room. By that time, Joanna was already in a coma. Although doctors performed surgery to try and save her life, they were too late.

According to the Associated Press, the girl Joanna had fought with and seven other kids who had witnessed the fight have all been interviewed by police. It wasn't clear that any of the adults at the school knew a fight was set to take place. Deputy Chief Robert Luna said, "We are still trying to put the pieces of this puzzle together." No arrests are expected at this time.
