A Texan man was driving his wife to a birthing hospital 45 minutes away from their home when she gave birth in his car.
Zachary Russell was driving his wife Jennifer to a birthing center after she started having contractions in their home in Waxahachie, Texas. But 15 minutes into the drive Jennifer realized the baby was coming earlier than expected.
“By the time my water broke, I pushed once, and she was out,” Jennifer told ABC in an interview.
Acting quickly, Zachary whipped out his camera phone and started filming his wife in labor, while driving.
“I just kept making sure the frame was good and that I was staying on the road,” he said to ABC. “I’m surprised I did real well!”
The video shows a calm Jennifer in the passenger seat uncoiling the umbilical cord from around her baby's neck as the couple continued their journey to the birthing center.
Newborn Willow arrived healthy and the couple plans to keep the car until she's old enough to drive “It has to be her first vehicle so that she can tell everybody, ‘Hey, I was born right there!’ ” Jennifer said.
