A woman who falsely accused her estranged husband of raping her was sentenced to four months in jail.

Michaela Lodge had lied to authorities about her husband Martin Lodge - all because she wanted to get him out of her life. Martin was then forced to spend 12 hours in a cell being interrogated.

Only after three months, the 45-year-old mother of three confessed she had made it all up just so she could go forth with an affair.

Judge Rodger Hayward Smith says Michaela's "calculted" behaviour had done a great disservice to real rape victims." He said: "It was a wicked allegation that was pre-planned to hasten his departure from your life."

However, Martin still supported Michaela - who is separated from him, but still stays with him - in court, saying his arrest left him "totally humiliated" but his wife had learned her lesson.
