A man set his house on fire while trying to kill a spider with a lighter. Firefighters say the 40-year-old man had been trying to burn the spider, accidentally setting his house on fire.

"The man was trying to put the fire out with a garden hose when we arrived," the Watch manager Steve Pearce said. "There was a gap in the cladding where he was trying to kill the spider and so the sparks got through to the material behind and started spreading upwards towards the roof."

You'd think there would be some easier way to kill a spider rather than setting your house on fire to get rid of it. No, it wouldn't be cool to whack it with a shoe, or use bug spray; burning the spider to death is the macho thing to do!

Lucky for this guy, firefighters managed to save his house from serious damage. We don't even know if he did manage to kill it. Pearce notes, "We obviously had a chat with the man but I don't think he'll be doing this again."
Thank goodness.
