HOME & GARDEN - HOME DECOR & SAFETY

I recently attended the World Market design convention in Las Vegas and was bowled over by all the green vendors who displayed in the heart of the show. These lamps from Eangee were standouts. The Durian floor lamp (left) is an excellent alternative to a modern-looking lamp when you don't want to go all steel and chrome. The Fortune lamp (right) also comes in a small size that packs a design punch while still doing its job.
How they're green: Eangee uses only highly renewable materials in its lamps. The Durian lamp uses nito fern as its outer diffuser. This fast-growing vine grows around trees and other foliage until it smothers the other plants. Thus, in order to save the tree, the nito vine must be removed. Instead of burning the material, the company reuses the vine for the lamps. The Fortune lamp uses real cocoa leaves that are harvested through sustainable practices. The leaves are placed onto a heat-resistant lamp backing using nontoxic adhesives
