Moving water prevents stagnation, cools its immediate surroundings and delights the senses. We find some of the greatest examples of water gardens in desert cultures, where water is precious. The Al Andalus Generalife gardens, for example, depict the impressive accomplishments in engineering and design of the Moorish court culture in 13th-century Spain. Other historically important public fountain-water gardens, such as Angels of the Waters Fountain at Bethesda Terrace in New York City's Central Park, and the outstanding Trevi Fountain in Rome, were originally conceived as sources for public drinking water.
With current temperatures rising and an increasing number of heat waves, healing water-fountain gardens are sure to grow in popularity.
